"Diary, 7/20/2009 11:30pm:
I still haven't gotten the rhythm of the song yet on my bass. For hours, I have been trying to get the right rhythm of the song that is stuck in my head. I have played for hours after my class today. I have done nothing at all besides plucking strings. My homework is lying on my bed, yet to be touched and done for tomorrow. I hardly have time to hang out with my friends because I'm in class, doing homework or playing my guitar and bass.
"Guitar Ensemble" is the name of the band I'm with. Everyday after classes, we practice our songs, come up with new ones and try to get as much as possible out of our meetings. Sometimes they last for half the night, other times they last a full day. That is when I sleep over their place and wake up the next morning jamming with them. I enjoy playing with them. I love music and I love playing it. However, there are some days where I can't jam with them and I have to catch up on my studies.
Between the band and studies, I really have no time for friends. Whenever I have time to myself, I always find my bass on my lap. I lock myself in my dorm room and just play. Sometimes I find myself just plucking strings because I'm bored or depressed. I lost so many friends because of this, but I fear that if I miss one day of practicing, I will loose my rhythm and my drive. My guitar and bass comes first before anything else. Sometimes it affects my studies and I barely pass my classes.
It’s hard to really be dedicated to something because you want to be good at it. I dedicate most to all of my time on my music because I want to be a great musician in the future. But I can't be one alone. I need to have friends to support me, but I don’t have time to hang out with them. All I can really do right now is continue to pluck strings on my bass and create musical pieces. After that, its homework time. Hopefully, after college, I will have enough time on my hands to hang out with my friends once again.
Here is to another sleepless night and late-night Chinese food..."
